Pentecost Sunday - 19th May
Pentecost is a Christian celebration. Its purpose is to teach people about living in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
- Pentecosts marks the coming of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised his disciples he would send the Holy Spirit but he didn't tell them when this would be.
- The Holy Spirit descended on the disciples as they gathered in a room in Jerusalem. The men heard the sound of a violent wind and tongues of fire appeared upon their heads.
- Each disciple was filled with the Holy Spirit and was then able to speak in different languages.
- The disciples went out to preach the Word of God to people of different cultures. They also baptised thousands of people, receiving them into the new, Christian church.
National Simultaneous Reading Day
National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. It is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
This years book is Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. Bowerbird Blues stars a beautiful bowerbird on the search for (you guessed it) BLUE! It’s a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird’s search sends him soaring across the sea, sky and city. He swoops and snatches vibrant treasures for his collection, and soon his bower – a mix of natural and unnatural objects – attracts something greater and more fulfilling than he could ever have imagined.
We are hosting this years National Simultaneous Reading Day on Wednesday 22nd May and are delighted to have EPS and ECCC joining us for a wonderful afternoon of reading and activities.

Year 6 Red Bend Visit
Olivia visited RBCC this week as part of the year 7 orientation program. She has written her recount of her experience on the day.
My visit to RBCC
Today I went to visit RBCC to see what it was like. We started in the chapel where we got put into groups. We went to art and I sketched a picture of the library with grey lead.
Then I went to science and I was put into another group. We had rotations in science. My group started with making sherbet. Mine tasted a little sour but it was still pretty good. Then we made a floating tea bag. It was where we cut off the top of the tea bag, poured the tea out and we lit the top of the tea bag and it went up because hot air rises.
Next we did a pepper experiment which did not work for us because we didn’t read the instructions properly - but that is ok. After that we did a light bulb experiment with cords. Then we had morning tea. I had a muffin, watermelon, party pie and a sausage roll. After morning tea we went to sport and we had races on the rowing machines and we were supposed to use the exercise bikes but the boys did not share - but I didn’t care.
Last but not least we cooked pizza.
My favourite part was the sherbet experiment.
